I was born on the nature isle of Dominica but, consider myself St. Lucian as I moved here at a very young age. I am the last of five girls and have always surrounded myself with activity and education as these were very important factors for my parents. My elementary education started at Tapion School and then I attended St. Joseph’s Convent for part of my secondary school education. In 1989, my family relocated to the United States of America where I continued my studies at Ponce De Leon Middle School and then South Dade Senior High School where I graduated in 1993.

Although I did not do many extra curricula activities, I fell in love with swimming. At my youngest stage, I attended learn to swim as well as lifesaving programs and then soon started to swim competitively for St. Lucia. After relocating, I continued to swim for my high school. During my swimming career, I worked hard to receive some accolades like the Female Swimmer of The Year in St. Lucia, broke records for the 100m breast stroke in my high school, achieved All American and received the academic athlete award.

After high school, I attended the University of Miami where my focus was pre-med. I graduated in 1997 with Honors obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, Psychology and Secondary Education. Along with my university diploma, I obtained my Professional Certificate in Education for the State of Florida. While a full-time student at university, I also worked at a True Value Hardware and for two professors at my university assessing and compiling data on their research of bilingual students and misconceptions in science.

I quickly got hired after university at Immaculata-LaSalle High School where I worked for four years teaching the sciences at several levels. With that, I also got involved with coaching swimming and took four boys to Florida State Finals! Although, I loved coaching teenagers, it was at this point that I fell in love with teaching learn to swim and I started to work with Eric Schwab, a professional swim coach, to help kids get in the water and learn to love it.

But, I couldn’t stay in bustling South Florida as I was being called home to a more connected pace so, I returned to St. Lucia in 2001. I first taught at the St. Joseph’s Convent working with the upper classes in subjects like Biology and Integrated Science. It was here that I was given a great opportunity by the department head and I started to teach Mathematics. I was hooked. I quickly realized that the structure and patterns in the subject suited my personality and it became my preferred subject to teach. I then taught at Tapion School and finally, The Montessori Center. At both elementary schools, I taught the Common Entrance exam year (Grade 6/Standard 4) and got extremely good results as most of my students got their first choice and my class got the highest average on the island. Along with my love of teaching and my return to St Lucia, I discovered my love for group fitness as I joined a gym and attended the classes regularly.

I started to teach group fitness in 2003 with classes like Body Pump™ and Body Attack™. When Mad Dogg Athletics offered a Spin™ Certification class in 2011, I attended and obtained my certification and started to teach indoor cycling as well. Since then, I have created some classes of my own which combines kickboxing, cardiovascular and weight training in a high intensity and energized format.

Today, I am no longer in the classroom. Although I love the connection and abundance one gets in the classroom, I needed a more flexible time table to accommodate all my passions – tutoring and teaching group fitness. So, I took the leap and began working on my own.

Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.
